Donating to new facility? Crucial deadline approaching fast

If you have considered donating to the "Renewing Minds" library capital campaign, which was created to fund construction of a new library on campus, doing so before Dec. 31 is crucial.

That's because Dec. 31 is the last day every dollar or pledge will be matched (up to $10 million) by a generous charitable foundation.

Here are a few particulars for giving to the campaign:
  • Pledges can be fulfilled immediately, over months or as late as December 2014. Fulfillment is not expected until December 2014.
  • Direct gifts can include cash, check, credit card, stock or property.
  • Another possibility for giving: Gifts matched by a company or foundation.
  • By clicking "Give Online Now" at http://www.uu.edu/library/renewingminds/giving.cfm donors can make a gift in honor of or in memory of someone, with the opportunity to send an acknowledgement of the gift.
Union University President David S. Dockery said this about the opportunity to build a state-of-the-art facility, which will be situated next to Jennings Hall: "In many ways this is a kairos moment in the life of this institution, a rare opportunity that we have been given through the generosity of a marvelous foundation."

The new three-story facility, at an estimated cost of $18 million, will cover approximately 60,000 square feet. The current library is less than 30,000 square feet.

Faculty and staff can fill out a pledge card or find one online and enroll in a payroll deduction plan, give a one-time gift or pledge an amount to be paid by December 2014.

While Union's IGave campus giving campaign encompasses much more than giving to the fund for the new library, information about the library-specific campaign can be found on the "IGave" website by clicking on "New Library" in the menu.
