Union Health & Benefits Fair

On Tuesday many of us from the library participated in the Health & Benefits Fair that took place in the Grant Center. Paul Sorrell did a great job of making signs, creating a display and a brilliant short film that was projected onto the display board. The film, highlighting the libraries benefits and the staff who work in the library, repeated throughout the fair. In addition at our booth we gave away pens, highlighters, mints, book markers, clips and carabiners. On the display we highlighted some services that The Summar Library can offer to the Union University community. Here are just a few things that might interest you.

Research Your Family History:
If you are like me then you might want to know a bit more about your family and ancestors. What is your ethnic heritage? How did your great grandfather come to the United States and what happened to him? You can use many of our databases free of charge and even get help from our archivist, Jenny Lowery, to research your family history and answer many of these questions. This is something that many people are willing to pay for but it is available through The Summar Library without charge.

Recreation in the Library:

Recreational Reading
Just as you enter the library on the left and right are little round shelves with many works of popular fiction. Taking a vacation and want to check some books out or just looking for a good book to read over the weekend? Then stop by the library.
We have a growing collection of Audio Books  available through Net Library that you can download in MPD format and add to your iPod or MP3 player. These titles include works by CS Lewis, Henri Nouwen and Charles Spurgeon.

Music CDs
We have a collection of music discs and books on CD in the library. They are in the room with the DVDs and if you ask at the front desk then they can show you the CD collection and you can browse. I just checked out a James Joyce Novel to listen to in my car.

Movies on DVD
In the same area of the library where we keep the CD collection are the DVDs. You can ask for the DVD collection at the front desk of the library. We have many popular titles that you can check out over the weekend. I often check out films, including former Oscar winners, and movies like Toy Story, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, or HBO's series Band of Brothers. You should definitely visit our popular films collection.
