Stand on the Shoulders of Giants

It was the great enlightenment scientist and thinker, Sir Isaac Newton who said, "If I have seen far, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants". This quote also happens to be the slogan for Google Scholar. Intellectually, we stand on the shoulders of giants by understanding their ideas and reading what they have written. In Google  Scholar we have a powerful search tool that is easy to use. As a matter of fact it is very easy to use Google Scholar to search most of the periodical content in the collection at the Emma Waters Summar Library, helping us to stand on the shoulders of giants.

Simply go to Google Scholar

To the right of the search box click on Scholar Preference

Make sure that the box "Union University" is checked so that it will search all of Union's database full-text holdings. If you are on campus Union should automatically be checked as your preferred school but if you are off campus it is easy to just search and add Union as your school of choice. In your results list, next to the articles that we have in full-text, will be a link directly to the article that you can get as a Union student. You can see how it is done below:

The Results Page will look like this below, just click on the link to Union's full text

If you need any help at all we are available just call 731-668-1818, e-mail reference@uu.edu, send a facebook message or schedule an appointment with a research coach!
